Our customers have written to us many times telling us that a leaking basement no longer leaks; how someone, who has been scaling his ladder a few too many times a year to clean his gutters, has retired his ladder to the back of the garage; and how a homeowner no longer must ask her kids, grandchildren, or random handymen to clean her gutters for her. 

Perhaps the most poignant story was from Kathy in Ann Arbor, Michigan, who sent us an unsolicited email in 2019 that said, in part:

There are several problem[s] I am experiencing. The kinds of trees over the house are black walnut and cottonwood. There is also a mulberry, but I would remove that if necessary.

The cottonwood seeds do not “blow off” the roof. They have a sticky substance on them. When it gets hot, they attach to the roof. Every year for the last 32 years, I have had to get on the roof to sweep them off. Then they leave. If they are not removed from the roof, when the cotton balls come, they attach to the sticky seeds, and this provides a layer for moss to grow on. Because of the increasingly hot and humid weather in Michigan, I am going to have to get someone to spray the roof to get rid of the moss, which can get slippery when wet.

If the gutters are not clean before it rains, we get water in the basement. This means before each storm, I am up on the roof making sure the gutters are clean. It would be hard to pay for this amount of service from someone else.

I have many misgivings about any gutter guard, but I am now 74 and should not be sweeping roofs and cleaning gutters. I have to have a better system. 

When we received this letter, Johnathan immediately reached out to Kathy and told her that he would drive to Ann Arbor to help her. How could we not? 

The irony of Kathy’s story is that we helped her identify a fix to a 32-year-old problem in less than 5-minutes.
