7-inch gutters are the ultimate water management system for homes where there’s a mismatch between the water flow rate and the water carrying capacity of the gutters.

Why install 7-inch gutters?

7-inch gutters are the ultimate workhorse in areas around your home with significant water flow issues. Seven inch gutters nearly double the carrying capacity of 5-inch gutters. Most homes don’t need such large gutters, but there are times when the roof area far exceeds the carrying capacity of the gutters, so bumping up to bigger gutters makes sense.

In many cases, we install 7-inch gutters only on certain areas on a home where smaller gutters have failed. We’ll show you some examples on this page.

7-inch gutters carry 96% more water than 5-inch gutters

With nearly twice the carrying capacity of 5-inch gutters, seven inch gutters serve a unique purpose on homes that have tremendous volumes of water that overwhelm smaller gutter systems. 7-inch gutters carry 36% more water than 6-inch gutters.

In most cases, you can think of 7-inch gutters as the solution for a spot or two or three on your home where water continuously overflows the gutters.

The most obvious areas on a home are in valleys. If you have a long valley that moves a lot of water into a small section of gutter, you may regularly see the gutter unable to handle the water flow.

This is also a common where you have large sections of roof that drain into short sections of gutter.

Water overflowing a gutter is a nuisance, and it can be particularly problematic if you have a basement, crawl space or are worried about water deteriorating your home’s facade and foundation walls.

7" gutters have the same good looks, just in a larger format

The 7-inch gutters we offer have the same profile as our 5-inch and 6-inch gutters. Known as K-style, 7-inch gutters simply have a bigger profile. When sitting next to its smaller siblings, you’d notice a difference, but if they’re installed together, most people wouldn’t notice the difference.

If you go outside and look at your 5″ gutters, you may see a fair bit of wood, vinyl or aluminum showing behind the gutters. The amount of exposed fascia boards showing diminishes as the gutters size increases.

When are 7" gutters beneficial?

Valleys and large sections of roof that drain into small sections of gutter are the most common reason why you might want to add 7-inch gutters to your home.

Generally speaking, you can add 7-inch gutters only where needed. In other words, if you have a spot or two that regularly overflow with smaller 5-inch gutters and 6″ gutters, then 7-inch gutters will most certainly solve your problem.

Think of it a bit like a trough. The wider the mouth of the trough and the bigger the trough, the better its ability to capture water. That’s what 7″ gutters buy you: water carrying capacity with the same look and feel of your current gutter system.

How do you attach gutters to the house?

We use hidden hangers with integrated screws that are 3″ long to attach 7-inch gutters to home’s fascia boards. The advantage of these hangers is that they make it easy for us to hang your gutters and they’re durable. There are many types of hangers on the market, many of which are less expensive and less effective than the hangers we use, as shown here.

How do you ensure that 7-inch gutters are installed properly?

There’s a lot of ineptitude in this industry. Sure, folks may work hard, mean well, and all that good stuff, but do they know what they’re doing?

Fortunately for you, we know what we’re doing. When we hang 7-inch gutters, we use levels. It’s the only way to make sure gutters work reliably and predictably. They say everybody gets lucky once in a while. We prefer to get lucky every time!

Material quality matters. That’s why we use high-end caulk when we install 7-inch gutters. Mostly from Geocel. It is designed to withstand the elements. In some cases, it’s good for up to 50-years. Cheap caulk breaks down and can leak within a short period of time after applying it.

We use the good stuff because it’s the right thing to do. Why cut corners, and why use inferior caulk?

What gutter colors are available?

Most of our suppliers offer up to 30-colors for 7″ gutters and downspouts. However, that is subject to change based on supply chain and labor issues.

Popular colors such as white, brown, clay are typically available, while trendy colors such as black sometimes go on back order. The best thing to do is find a color you like, then have us special order it for you if it’s not currently available.
